Tom and Jerry
I picked Tom and Jerry because that is the only cartoon show I watch and it showed humor when Tom who is the cat chases Jerry who is the mouse.
The New York Times quoted " this is the center of humor" explains that New York Times enjoyed the TV show. Also, not only Tom and Jerry is popular in the US, it popular in different countries such as the Middle East, India, Pakistan, Africa and South Africa. Tom and Jerry is heavily populated in the United Kingdom and Germany. According to a newspaper, a poll was shown that for humor the people in United Kingdom and Germany was Tom and Jerry.
Tom and Jerry was originally created William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. After releasing the cartoon Puss Gets the Boot in the 1940s, William Hanna and Joseph Barbera wanted to create a TV show dealing with the the cat and the mouse having altercations. William and Joseph held an intra - studio contest to give the cat and the mouse a name by drawing names out of a hat. An animator named John Carr won 50$ with his suggestion of Tom and Jerry. Tome and Jerry series went into production in the late 1940s. Hanna would supervise the production while Barbera would create the story. The creators drew the cat and the mouse. Tom and Jerry was aired on TV in the 1950s. During the 1960s an animator from Czechoslovakia named Gene Deitch came overseas to help create more series on Tom and Jerry. He commented "Tom and Jerry is a primary bad example of senseless violence- humor based on pain, attack and revenge". Some the series of Tom and Jerry were released outside of the United States towards the 1970s. The main characters of the series are Tom who is the cat, Jerry who is the mouse, Spike who is bulldog and Tyke who is Spike's son. Tom is a blue and white domestic shorthair cat. He lives close to a small brown house mouse name Jerry. Jerry has suprising strength for his size. Usually the cat eats the mouse, but in the series Tom does not attempt to eat Jerry. Most of his attepts are just to torment or humiliate Jerry. Tom tries to catch Jerry, but with Jerry's keen mind he is able to trick Tom most of the times. Tom has to deal with Spike who attacks him for bothering his son Tyke while trying to get Jerry.
The type of comedy is present in Tom and Jerry is slapstick. Slapstick is a type of comedy that has violence and boisterious actions. Tom and Jerry series is a slapstick comedy because Tom is trying to torment Jerry in many ways (Tom does not want to eat him).
